“Looking back, I have never felt more motivated and supported as an artist as when I took AP Art with John my senior year of high school (2016). His sculpting experience was invaluable, especially when it came to exploring materials, subject matter, and ultimately honing in on my own personal style. From clay to pantyhose to plastic bags, during that year, I produced work that I continue to be proud of today. I owe a tremendous amount of this pride to John who truly inspired me to see myself as an artist and believe in my creativity/vision.”

“Having John as a teacher not only helped me work on my skills, but he helped me find and perfect my style as an artist. I had been focusing too much on fine details but John helped me loosen up, and made me realize that I had a knack for gesture drawing. He provided me with the tools and environment to nurture my skill and style by setting me up with a large roll of paper and long sticks of charcoal to harness and get better at the nature of gesture drawing. Out of every art teacher I ever had, he was the only one to identify what methods would be best for me as an individual to develop my skill and personal style, rather than forcing me into a set curriculum or style as most professors do.”

"John Gatti was an amazing teacher who started my love for art. He saw my potential and showed me all the possibilities I couldn't see. Without John, I don't think I'd be getting gold and silver keys in the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition. He showed me that I shouldn't compare myself to others while creating art and focus on my own talents. Thanks to John I'm now more involved with being the best that I can be and not being better than others. I don't know where I'd be without him."

“John, thank you so much for all you’ve done for me throughout high school. Your endless support, whether as an art teacher or advisor, means the world to me. I honestly feel I wouldn’t have been able to create the art I have throughout these past four years without you. Even when I wasn’t in the art room, your support pushed me so much further. You knew how to expand my creativity, and you helped me execute it in a way that reflected me and only me. Thanks to you, I was able to create art I was truly proud of. I’ll remember it forever. Again, I can’t thank you enough.”
